Almost a year ago, the airline Norwegian launched its flight between Skellefte\u00e5 and Stockholm. It was a long-awaited establishment with great interest in competitive airfares. However, the establishment coincided with Northvolt's challenges and subsequent bankruptcy, which meant that the airline could not expand at the pace it had planned. But now, with Lyten's purchase of the battery manufacturer, Norwegian hopes for strong growth in the region with increased demand for flights to and from Skellefte\u00e5 again. As of today, it is possible to book flight tickets for the whole of 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Norwegian has operated the route between Skellefte\u00e5 and Stockholm-Arlanda twice a week for most of 2025 and now the airline is choosing to extend its flight schedule. Starting October 26, the route will be flown on Fridays and Sundays to suit both travelers who commute weekly and those who want to travel there and back over a weekend.<\/p>\n

The development has been positive with more and more travelers and thanks to Lyten's purchase of Northvolt's assets, a restart of battery production and the rehiring of large volumes of personnel, Norwegian is optimistic about the future in Skellefte\u00e5.<\/p>\n

\u2013 The development in Skellefte\u00e5 with Lyten's establishment and many other companies investing increases the need for good accessibility to the outside world. It is therefore pleasing that we can announce today that we will continue flying between Stockholm and Skellefte\u00e5 throughout 2025 with the hope of many years to come, says Charlotte Holmbergh, Country Director Corporate Affairs at Norwegian.<\/p>\n

With Norwegian continuing to fly between Skellefte\u00e5 and Stockholm Arlanda, Skellefte\u00e5 Airport will become one of only four destinations in Sweden where two airlines fly domestic traffic.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Skellefte\u00e5's growth requires good accessibility to the outside world. The announcement that Lyten is resuming battery production means that we need more departures and more airline seats. I know that this is important news for the business community, residents and the tourism industry in Skellefte\u00e5 and we of course hope for an expansion in the future, says Robert Lindberg, CEO of Skellefte\u00e5 Airport.<\/p>\n

Norwegian says it could also consider expanding traffic if passenger volumes increase and if it sees increased bookings.<\/p>\n

\u2013We have had a positive development in the number of passengers to and from Skellefte\u00e5 and if we see that bookings and passenger volumes increase, we are not averse to expanding traffic with more departures, says Norwegian's Charlotte Holmbergh<\/p>\n
