{"id":793,"date":"2021-07-05T07:19:56","date_gmt":"2021-07-05T07:19:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/skellefteaairport.se\/skelleftea-utvecklar-teststracka-for-vertikalstartande-flygtrafik\/"},"modified":"2025-08-06T05:05:23","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T05:05:23","slug":"skelleftea-develops-test-track-for-vertical-take-off-air-traffic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/skellefteaairport.se\/en\/skelleftea-develops-test-track-for-vertical-take-off-air-traffic\/","title":{"rendered":"Skellefte\u00e5 develops test route for vertical take-off air traffic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3858\" src=\"https:\/\/skellefteaairport.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/190830-Volocopter-2X-First-Airtaxi-Helsinki-11-scaled-1-300x200.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Within the framework of the Swedish Energy Agency&#039;s call for proposals &quot;Fossil-free aviation 2045&quot;, Skellefte\u00e5 Airport&#039;s application has been approved.<br \/>\nThe application is about developing a test route between Skellefte\u00e5 Airport and Northvolt Ett for electric and vertical take-off aircraft, so-called eVTOL.<br \/>\nBehind the application is a broad consortium with partners from both academia and the private and public sectors.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The project will investigate and plan for infrastructure, airspace issues, permits, market issues, and from a research perspective, examine the electrical environment that the increased use of electrified aircraft provides at the airport.<br \/>\nThis creates the conditions for one of the very first test routes in the Nordic region, which will help shorten the time until commercial traffic with eVTOL in V\u00e4sterbotten and Sweden.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There are hundreds of industrial projects underway around the world that are developing eVTOL vehicles.<br \/>\nWith low operating costs and limited need for infrastructure on the ground, this is an extremely interesting means of transport for future regional travel in sparsely populated areas.<br \/>\nFurthermore, we see this as a sustainable, convenient and time-saving transportation solution to and from the airport within just a few years.<br \/>\nThis is the first necessary step to get commercial traffic started as quickly as possible, says Skellefte\u00e5 Airport&#039;s CEO Robert Lindberg.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Through Skellefte\u00e5 Airport&#039;s proactive work, including the installation of Sweden&#039;s most powerful electricity supply for electrified aviation, opportunities are created to quickly get vehicles into the air, both for testing and development and for commercial traffic.<br \/>\nIn addition to Skellefte\u00e5 Airport, the test route project also involves Skellefte\u00e5 Kraft, Lule\u00e5 University of Technology, Northvolt, Jonair and ACR.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We have assembled a broad constellation that will be able to contribute with different knowledge and perspectives.
