Ving launches charter news from Skellefteå – Crete will be a new destination next summer

The Greece trend continues and now Sweden's largest tour operator has good news for next summer when even the people of Skellefteå can get a piece of the pie. Starting in May 2026, Ving will begin serving the popular Greek island of Crete and will then offer departures until mid-June before resuming service in August. For the winter, trips to Gran Canaria are also offered.

-We are incredibly happy about this initiative, which we are convinced will be received with joyful applause among the people of Skellefteå. Last week we saw a clear increase in bookings, perhaps a Northvolt effect after the positive news. The heat wave that northern Sweden has experienced here this summer does not seem to have quenched the desire to travel, quite the opposite. We are therefore looking forward to starting another summer season from Skellefteå. Just in time for Christmas, our traffic to Gran Canaria will also start. So if you want to ensure some winter sun, you should not wait too long, as we already know that King Bores' arrival usually generates high booking pressure the further into the autumn we get. Especially around the school holidays, says Claes Pellvik, Head of Communications at Ving.

Winter traffic to Gran Canaria begins on December 18th and direct charters from Skellefteå Airport will then be offered until the beginning of April 2026.

Regarding the news, Ving operates Crete in two phases, May-June and August-September. And the airport is pleased that Ving is choosing to continue investing in Skellefteå.

-We are pleased that Ving continues to develop the charter offer and frequencies from Skellefteå Airport. Skellefteå has a strong geographical position where we reach many sun-loving travelers from northern Sweden and we know that Crete is a very popular destination, says Skellefteå Airport CEO, Robert Lindberg
