Skellefteå Airport's development in recent years has been powerful and now the record year 2017 is a fact. Today, Skellefteå Airport passed the 400,000 passenger mark this year, the highest number since the airport's inception. To celebrate the day, Skellefteå Airport CEO Robert Lindberg surprised the 400,000th passenger with a shower of confetti and a gift certificate for a trip.
– Oh, what a pleasant surprise, says Lisa Backman, who lives in Piteå. I travel quite a lot and it has really become tempting to travel from Skellefteå Airport. There is a good selection of departures, and then it is absolutely perfect with free parking.
– According to our Master Plan, the goal of 400,000 passengers was set for 2022, but through strategic decisions and good cooperation with the airlines, we are now proud to be able to celebrate 400,000 passengers already this year, says Robert Lindberg, CEO of Skellefteå Airport.
Skellefteå Airport is now continuing with the development of the airport with an extension of the runway in the summer of 2018 and a new terminal in the coming years. An important aspect of the increased travel is the environmental impact and at Skellefteå Airport the environment is a priority issue. Among other things, there is a clear goal to be fossil-free. Today, all vehicles run on the fossil-free fuel HVO and the terminal buildings have fossil-free heating and electricity consumption. Skellefteå Airport is also part of the Fly Green Fund, which works to reduce the climate footprint of air travel, primarily by purchasing biofuel.
