Ryanair has decided to establish domestic service between Skellefteå Airport and Stockholm Arlanda two days a week. The route will provide new travel options while improving accessibility to and from Skellefteå.
The airline Ryanair was previously based at Skavsta Airport in Nyköping, but in May the airline decided to move its base to Stockholm Arlanda.
The decision meant 22 new flight routes to and from Stockholm Arlanda, including two domestic routes to Gothenburg and Malmö.
Now Ryanair is choosing to continue expanding by starting to operate the Skellefteå - Stockholm Arlanda route, thereby re-establishing its presence at Skellefteå Airport after a few years of absence.
- The development that is now taking place in the Skellefteå region is unparalleled in all of Europe and in order for us to cope with the strong growth that is taking place, good communications to the outside world are required. The aviation infrastructure is absolutely crucial for our region's continued expansion as the distances to Stockholm or other cities are long. Ryanair's establishment provides increased opportunities for private individuals and businesses to travel to or from Skellefteå, which is of course gratifying, says Robert Lindberg, CEO of Skellefteå Airport.
Ryanair will operate the Stockholm Arlanda – Skellefteå – Stockholm Arlanda route twice a week on Mondays and Fridays from 3 December. The flights are designed for both weekly business trips and weekend tourism to or from Skellefteå.
- Over the years, the Skellefteå region has lost large passenger volumes to other airports due to the competitive conditions that existed there, which has been very disappointing. We most recently showed in 2017 and 2018 that the market exists for over 400,000 annual travelers and we hope that through this establishment, companies and private individuals will again choose Skellefteå, says Robert Lindberg.
