Passenger figures for April show a continued increase at Skellefteå Airport. The total number of passengers increased by 19 percent compared to the same period in 2017. This means that Skellefteå Airport has had uninterrupted passenger growth since November 2016.
– We have been eagerly awaiting April's statistics because it is the first month we can compare passenger numbers on the same terms as the previous year with two airline operators on the route to and from Arlanda. It therefore feels extra good that we are showing strong figures even now in April 2018, says Robert Lindberg, CEO of Skellefteå Airport.
The first major passenger surge for the airport came in April 2017 when Norwegian began flying to Skellefteå. SAS had previously flown on the Skellefteå-Arlanda route, but with Norwegian's establishment, the number of departures increased from five to eight per day and the pricing structure also changed. The next major passenger surge came with the launch of free parking at Skellefteå Airport in June 2017. Previously, free parking had been offered to charter passengers, but then the parking was opened up to all passengers.
– We have had a clear strategy for how we want to develop Skellefteå Airport and are pleased to see that more and more passengers are choosing to fly to and from us. Now the charter season has started and we are already seeing that there is high pressure on the free parking. Hopefully we will see even more cars there when SAS's new direct flights to Malaga start in June and the first charter from Rotterdam lands, concludes Robert Lindberg.
