Local collaboration with Whitebox for infection-free travel

Local collaboration for infection-free travel

Skellefteå Airport and local company Whitebox have entered into a collaboration to develop products for increased infection protection during travel. Skellefteå Airport will thus become one of the first airports in the world where these products are installed.

The ongoing corona pandemic has resulted in reduced travel in order to reduce the spread of infection. However, when vaccination is complete, travel is expected to increase due to regional developments and pent-up travel needs. In aviation, travel is already considered to pose a low risk of infection as the air on board aircraft is replaced every two to three minutes and is also purified in effective filter systems.

The development work is now directed towards developing systems for airports or other travel centers where many people gather. The products that are under design involve disinfection of air and contact surfaces so that an environment as free of infection as possible is achieved. The products will thus be useful for reducing the spread of bacteria and viruses both now and in the future.

– Skellefteå is once again at the forefront of enabling good and safe accessibility for our residents, visitors and businesses. Aviation is important for our communication with the outside world and now we will work to make this communication even more infection-proof, says Skellefteå Airport CEO Robert Lindberg.

Whitebox develops automatic and rapid disinfection products that eliminate bacteria, viruses and other pathogens from the air or surfaces in places where diseases can spread. The technology is environmentally friendly and chemical-free.

– Through our collaboration, we can develop products that can be used in environments where many travelers gather. This means that the risk of being exposed to infection when traveling can be minimized, which is very positive for both staff and travelers, says Erik Wikström, Whitebox AB
