The management of Skellefteå Airport has decided to postpone the planned extension of the runway that was to take place during the summer of 2018 to the summer of 2019. The underlying reason is that the work on the environmental assessment is still ongoing and thus there is no environmental verdict that makes it possible to begin the project.
– Our work with the environmental assessment has taken longer than we expected and we are now postponing the runway extension project. The work on a new environmental permit that provides the conditions for Skellefteå Airport's future operations must be prioritized, says Robert Lindberg.
The goal was to receive the environmental verdict during the first quarter of 2018 in order to give the contractor who will carry out the work on the extension the go-ahead to plan it into their operations.
